The Senate has convened a special sitting today to deliberate on critical revenue bills aimed at guiding the allocation of funds to counties and marginalised regions across the country.
The sitting, held under Standing Order 33(1), was convened following a formal request by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruyiot and backed by the requisite number of senators, as announced in a notice issued by Speaker Amason Kingi.
Top on the agenda is the Equalisation Fund Appropriation Bill (Senate Bills No. 7 of 2025), which seeks to allocate funds to areas officially identified as marginalised, in line with Article 204 of the Constitution. Senators will also debate the County Allocation of Revenue Bill (Senate Bills No. 9 of 2025), which determines the formula for the equitable sharing of national revenue among Kenya’s 47 devolved units.
Additionally, the County Governments Additional Allocations (No. 2) Bill (Senate Bills No. 8 of 2025) will be considered. This bill provides supplementary funding for county governments to carry out specific national government functions.
The Senate will also examine the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), including the agreed version of the bill that reconciles differences between the two Houses of Parliament.
The sitting may also address any urgent matters or messages received from the National Assembly or county assemblies.
Following today’s proceedings, the Senate is expected to adjourn until Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:30 PM, in accordance with the Senate Calendar.
