BY GERALD GEKARA – Motorists using the busy Mbagathi have been forced to look for alternative routes into Nairobi County as a section of Multimedia University students blocked the road to protest the injuring of one of their own.

According to the students, a first-year university student was crossing the road at the main entrance when he was allegedly knocked down by a matatu plying the Nairobi – Rongai route.

Police from Karen Police station and Rongai post who arrived on the scene to try controlling the ordeal were met with stones, forcing them to lob teargas canisters at the protesting students.

So far 3 students have been arrested.

In 2017, a similar accident on Mbagathi road led to week-long protests that paralyzed activities along the busy road. Efforts to make the road safer for students have proven difficult owing to frequent bending of rules by motorists.
