Schools being used as quarantine facilities will be evacuated a month to reopening, Education CS Prof. George Magoha says – By Gerald Gekara.
“Health officials and the school management will use this time to fumigate and ensure facilities are safe for learners ahead of the scheduled reopening in January 2021.” said Magoha.
Prior to the resumption of the school calendar, parents had expressed concerns about the safety of the schools being used as quarantine facilities.
However, Magoha said the Ministry of Education has put in place mechanisms to disinfect the 431 schools being used as quarantine centers.
“We have since agreed that, if in principle we are moving towards September, we shall disengage as those places. Those institutions will be thoroughly fumigated and tested the way we do in medical practice,” added Magoha.
Kenya’s 2020 education calendar was halted abruptly as part of the government’s measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
