Major General Badi to unveil upgraded slum hospital

The Mathare-Korogocho Level 5 Hospital that has been undergoing refurbishment and upgrade, will be ready by end of March 2021, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) says.

NMS Director- General Major General Mohamed Badi said they had put a request to the national government to set aside a budget for equipping the hospital with procurement process underway.

The NMS has also beckoned the National Treasury to ensure flow of funds to facilitate the successful completion of the hospital.

The upgrade is expected to cost about Sh400 million.

The hospital is situated in Mathare North, and will be housed in a five- storey building.

The hospital will hire more than 300 workers drawn from different health professions.

Maj-Gen Badi added that the hospital will have all the facilities of a Level 5 hospital including its own mortuary, kidney dialysis center, theatres and an intensive care unit (ICU).

The facility will be at the same level as Mama Lucy Hospital which is also being upgraded by NMS.
