With the opening of the first Obstetric Fistula Centre in Makueni County on March 27, 2023, the Eastern region of Kenya has achieved a significant milestone in maternal healthcare.
The facility’s mission is to offer specialist care and treatment to women with Obstetric Fistula, a crippling birth injury that thousands of women experience in underdeveloped nations.
The County’s move under the leadership of Governor Senator Mutula Kilonzo is that women don’t live with incontinence and shame that comes with Obstetric Fistula.
The facility offers complete treatment and rehabilitation services to impacted ladies and is staffed with qualified healthcare specialists and contemporary medical equipment.
The opening of this centre represents an important step in enhancing maternal health outcomes in the area and lowering maternal morbidity and mortality.
