Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has assured holiday makers visiting Malindi that measures have been put in place to entrust their safety while there.
The Governor who was inspecting county projects in the region was reacting to reports that Malindi town and its environs had recorded a surging number of Covid-19 cases and that it was risky for visitors to set foot in the tourist resort town.

“It is true that Corona cases have surged around the World and not Kilifi or Malindi alone. What I would like to say for those who wants to come for holidays that hotel owners and stakeholders in the entire Kilifi County, touching on Malindi, Watamu, Kilifi and Mtwapa have put strict measures to address the hospitality sector,” said Governor Malindi.
He told journalists’ in Shella that people should not fear going to Malindi after a special team of health experts visited and inspected all tourists hotel in the county to make sure that they adhere to the laid down ministry of health protocols on Covid-19 pandemic.

“Those who wants to come for December holidays’ should feel free to come because they are secure. So people should not fear coming to Malindi just because of the corona reported cases. The truth is that a team of health officials from the health department did an inspection in all the hotels and they have fully put all the required health protocols,” the Governor said.
Malindi town is worldwide known for its high end tourists hotel and it has always been named as one of the finest tourists’ destination. However the town which entirely depend on the tourism sector has been facing a turbulent times since the onset of Covid-19. It has of late been recoding several covid-19 positive cases, hence creating fear among residents.
“I want to assure tourists that Malindi is safe and that they should be free to visit these hotels and enjoy their holidays. All measures have been put in place to protect their safety,” he added.
