Police officers in the Ndiu-ini area of Gilgil have apprehended a murder suspect following the tragic death of his wife during a domestic dispute.
Residents handed over the suspect to law enforcement on Sunday after the incident, which has left the local community in shock.
Witnesses report that the couple had been living together for three years, marked by frequent disagreements.
Moses Macharia, a neighbor and head of the “Nyumba Kumi” initiative in the area, was informed of the incident by the suspect’s immediate neighbors.
Macharia described the couple’s relationship as tumultuous and said this was not the first time they had engaged in heated arguments that required outside intervention.
“I know these people well; I have come here before during their fights. There was one incident where they even brandished knives at each other,” Macharia recounted. The ongoing disputes culminated in a tragic end, raising concerns about the couple’s troubled history.
According to neighbors, the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation remain murky. Reports indicate that prior to the incident, the deceased allegedly destroyed household items and even set some on fire, escalating tensions in the home.
Moses Macharia noted, “Both of them were often drinking, and fights would happen after they had been consuming alcohol.” This highlights a concerning aspect of their relationship, as substance abuse often contributes to domestic conflicts.
Francis Irungu, another neighbor, indicated that the murder suspect was still at their rented home on Sunday morning after allegedly committing the crime late Saturday night.
The situation was brought to light when a friend of the deceased visited the couple’s residence. Noticing something was amiss, the friend raised the alarm and alerted other neighbors.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, aiming to uncover the specific details surrounding the tragic case. The suspect remains in police custody as community members grapple with the loss and reflect on the importance of addressing domestic violence issues in their midst.
