Man Wanted In US For Killing Girlfriend And Fleeing To Kenya

The body of a 31-year-old woman was discovered inside a car at Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, 48 hours after she was reported missing.

According to NBC Boston, Massachusetts State Police believe Margaret Mbitu was killed by her partner, Kevin Kang’ethe. Following the incident, he reportedly booked a flight to Kenya.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for the 40-year-old suspect and are collaborating with Kenyan authorities to locate and extradite him.

The extradition treaty between the United States and Kenya establishes a legal framework for both countries to collaborate in criminal matters.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has an international operations office in Nairobi, which also aids in this effort.

Officers are also working to establish the motive behind the murder and determine whether it was premeditated.

Mbitu, who worked as a nurse at BAMSI, a non-profit organisation, was reported missing on Monday. She was last seen leaving her workplace while driving a white SUV.

48 hours later, her body was found inside a car in Logan Airport’s central parking lot. Detectives have since established that the car is registered to Kang’ethe, the primary suspect in the case.

Mbitu’s family and friends described her as a kind-hearted and cheerful person, leaving them to question why anyone would have a motive to harm her.

“I am very devasted and have been since Monday. She was a very close family to us. She was very dear to my two very heartbroken daughters. She was the most kind-hearted person,” Jane Wambu, a family friend told CBS News Boston.

Massachusetts State Police assured the public that the incident does not pose a threat to visitors at Logan Airport, as both Mbitu and Kang’ethe knew each other.
