Mandera: Red Cross Donates Pharmaceuticals For Cholera Treatment Center

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) in Partnership with Mandera County Government has responded to the current cholera epidemic which has affected Mandera East, Mandera South, Mandera West by donating Pharmaceutical and Non-pharmaceutical commodities for one Cholera Treatment Centre.

They include three tents, 80 cholera beds, 60 dripping stands,100 safety boxes 20 gumboots,1000 surgical examination gloves, 200 biohazard bags 36 packets of chlorine of 5 kgs each, 30 boxes of purr, five boxes of aqua tabs, 260 boxes of hand sanitizers and assorted medicines.

Mandera County Government has also been supported through interventions such as Case management technical staff, community engagement through Deployment of additional 100 volunteers for community-level engagements including for WASH and contact tracing as may be prioritized by the technical officers.

The initiative includes the engagement of key religious leaders, community leaders and other influencers, with the Health Ministry also engaging support coordination platforms at the county level.

While receiving the commodities, Mandera CEC Member for Health Dr. Mohamud Eda thanked the organization for their effort and support received during such critical times.

Eda added with the support from partners, his department will now setup a second cholera treatment centre (CTC).

KRCS -Mandera Branch Coordinator Mr. Mustafa Adan said that they will continue with the support until cholera cases are eradicated in Mandera.

As of today, Mandera county has recorded 686 cases who have been admitted at the Cholera treatment centres in three sub counties of Mandera East, Mandera West and Mandera South.
