Mashemeji Derby Barren: Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards Draw

Kenyan football giants AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia played out a lackluster 0-0 draw in the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Despite the pre-match hype, neither side managed to find the back of the net, with Gor Mahia feeling the biggest impact as they missed a chance to close the gap on league leaders Kenya Police FC and Tusker.

Ingwe coach Fred Ambani set up an attacking lineup, but his side struggled to break down a resilient Gor Mahia defense. Meanwhile, K’Ogalo’s Serbian tactician, Sinisa Mihic, opted to bench key midfielder Austin Odhiambo, a decision that saw his side struggle to convert their dominance into goals.

Gor Mahia had the better chances, with Musa Sheriff and Ghanaian import Morrison Enoch both spurning golden opportunities in the first half. AFC Leopards, on the other hand, came closest through Ovella Ochieng, whose shot sailed over the bar.

Both sides made tactical substitutions in the second half, but the game remained a cagey affair, ending in a goalless draw in front of a packed stadium.

The result means Gor Mahia continue to trail the top teams, while AFC Leopards extended their unbeaten run but without the much-needed three points.
