A massage parlour in the coastal town of Paignton, Devon, England, has been served a closure notice over suspected links to prostitution-related activities.
Buddha’s Hands Wellness, a salon that promotes “unparalleled relaxation and rejuvenation,” has been ordered to remain shut ahead of a court hearing scheduled for June 18 at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court.
A notice posted on the salon’s front window by Devon and Cornwall Police states that detectives have “reasonable grounds to believe the premises were used for activities related to one or more specified prostitution offences.”
The temporary closure order, issued under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will remain in place until the full hearing. Authorities say the move is intended “to protect individuals at the premises from exploitative or coercive practices.”
The salon’s website markets traditional Chinese massage therapies and claims that many of its clients are healthcare professionals seeking relief after long shifts. It offers three treatment rooms and advertises services tailored to individual needs.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the closure order is being legally challenged by the current tenants. “We hope to issue a full statement after the hearing with further details,” the spokesperson added.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and prompted broader questions around the regulation of wellness establishments in the area.
Until the hearing, the salon will remain closed, and police have asked the public to report any suspicious activity related to similar establishments.
