Matiang’i Declares Monday A Public Holiday

Monday, December 13, 2021, has been proclaimed a public holiday by the government.

The Ministry of Interior and National Government Coordination made the statement.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i announced on Thursday that December 13 will be a public holiday due to Jamhuri Day falling on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

“It is officially confirmed that 13 December 2021 will be a public holiday, in accordance with the requirements of Sections 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110), by virtue of Jamhuri Day falling on Sunday 12th December 2021,” read the notification

“This day is historically significant since it commemorates Kenya’s independence and the establishment of the Republic. All residents are invited to commemorate and celebrate this day in a way that promotes the country’s togetherness, national cohesion, and economic prosperity.”

This year’s celebrations will be hosted for the first time at the newly constructed Uhuru Gardens.
