Thousands of delegates braved the cold in Nairobi on Friday to attend Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja Convention, where the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was scheduled to formally proclaim his run for the presidency in 2022.
Some of the delegates at Kasarani arrived as early as 3 a.m. to be among the first to see the gates open.
Despite the rain, there was excitement in the air, with attendees unified in their support for Odinga’s presidential bid in the 2022 General Election.
Despite the two-thirds capacity restriction imposed by COVID-19 containment restrictions, convention organizers expected the stadium to be completely packed.
By 9 a.m., a third of the stadium’s seats had been filled.
Odinga was due to arrive at the sports complex at 11.30 a.m., followed by a 2.30 p.m. address to delegates.
