Mavoko Demolitions: MP Patrick Makau Presents Himself to DCI, Insists He’s Innocent

Patrick Makau, a Mavoko Member of Parliament, was questioned on Wednesday regarding the fraudulent sale of East Africa Portland Cement land to Kenyans.

He denied being involved in the saga and insisted that he was innocent and that the summons issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the Aimi Ma Lukenya Society was merely political.

Makau called for an investigation into the demolitions, calling them inhumane.

“When these houses are built in large numbers be it in hundreds or thousands, there must be county government approvals, and when these were being built they did not stop,” he said.

“You may tarnish my name, you already crucifying me but I will stand with the people of Mavoko. You don’t publish my name when I do well, but you are now tarnishing my name,” he said.

“I condemn the demolitions in the strongest terms possible.”

He called on the DCI to do a thorough investigation on the matter without politicizing it.

“I am calling on the DCI to do a thorough investigation without political interference until the last person to be held culpable if it is so,” he said.

He said he had no planning department or enforcement to approve any construction or demolition of any buildings in the county.

“I went to understand the reason and the cause of the demolitions, give help to the victims but that did not happen I was denied the chance,” he said.

Makau also cautioned the politicians against politicizing the matter saying it’s a matter of life and death to those affected.

“This is a life and death situation, there are people who don’t know where they will sleep during this rainy season, people are dying and somebody is smiling somewhere,” Makau said.

“If these titles were fake, why did it take 10 years for the Ministry of Lands to prove that East Africa Portland is the legit owner of the land.”

He called on President Ruto to compensate the people affected by the demolitions.

He also called for relief for the people affected.
