Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Dr. Alfred Mutua has condemned Raila Odinga’s attack on the US Ambassador.
Raila Odinga blasted the US Ambassador Meg Whitman’s comments on the 2022 General Elections, stating it was the fairest election in Kenya’s History.
“I want to tell that Rogue Ambassador to Shut her mouth or we will call for her recall. Kenya is not a colony of the USA.”
Dr. Mutua in a late rejoinder, defended the US Ambassador saying no individual has the power to recall an ambassador other than the government through his Ministry
“If Kenya has a problem with any diplomat or country, it is the work of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to summon and seek clarification. It is only the Government of Kenya that can seek the recalling of an envoy.”
He added that Ambassador Whitman was ‘stating the obvious facts’ and should be applauded for wooing investors.
“The Kenyan Government welcomes the forthright and honest comments that the @USAmbKenya made on the positive strides that Kenya has made in the last one year. She stated facts and paid tribute to the democratic way our constitutional institutions oversaw a credible electoral process that has set Kenya on a transformative path.”
Raila’s comments sparked criticism from Kenya Kwanza leaders, who in return asked him to tone down the vitriol.
“From the speech, it doesn’t seem as though Raila means well for Kenya. Going forward I hope he takes a break, listens to himself and puts Kenya above himself because Kenya is bigger than Raila Odinga” Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
