Meru County to host Kenya’s first Mountain Race to boost fight against Cancer

BY FAITH MUTETE – Meru County is preparing to have a mountain race on the February 8 next year at the foot of Mount Kenya forest to help raise funds to support the fight against cancer.


The race has been dubbed ‘Challenging the Heights’ and the money raised will be used to establish the Meru Cancer Institute.


Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi yesterday attended a mock race of the main race where he said he had the intention of making the race international as it was the first in Africa.


In attendance was Joseph Kinyua, former athletics Kenya Treasurer who is also Meru sports council chairman who noted that race would involve both the young and old where winners will pocket Ksh 500,000, first runners, up, 250000, while second runners up 100000
