According to the Meru Catholic Diocese, women were paid to heckle Ida Odinga at the Catholic Women Association’s (CWA) prayer day in Meru County.
When the audience began shouting and chanting, Mama Ida’s address was cut short, prompting her to leave the event obviously disturbed.
The CWA coordinator, Sister Gemmah Mbui, told The Standard that politicians present at the event were causing disruption.
“This was supposed to be a day of prayer. A politician had brought people with him to the event. It was decided that only Mrs Odinga would address participants so as to clear of politics during the event.”
She went on to claim that the decision to deny any politician access to the microphone infuriated the audience, and incitements began, even warning the bishop in attendance, Bishop Salesius Mugambi, of an impending turn of events.
Ida Odinga was the invited guest, but the hostile crowd refused to allow her to speak to them.
The occasion was attended by North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi.
