Man Who Hung From CS’s Helicopter Faces Attempted Suicide Charges

In an unexpected turn of events, the court heard that Mutwiri jumped from the first floor of a building in Nairobi some years ago, sustaining injuries.

A 41-year-old man who hang on the landing skids of a chopper ferrying Agriculture CS Peter Munya in Igembe South, Meru County, will be charged with attempted suicide on Monday, June 27.

Johakim Mutwiri was presented before a court in Maua soon after he was arrested on Thursday, June 23, but was not charged after his mother said that he was mentally unstable.

In an unexpected turn of events, the court heard that Mutwiri jumped from the first floor of a building in Nairobi some years ago, sustaining injuries.

Igembe South Police Commander Hussein Ali stated that after being interrogated by police officers following his arrest, Mutwiri stated that he wanted a lift to Nairobi to look for job.

Mutwiri became the centre of attention in Kiegoi market where the Agriculture CS and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi had addressed members of the public in campaigns.

Mutwiri’s case comes almost five years after a man from the same region hung on a chopper carrying former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Unlike Mutwiri who did not get to experience the chopper take off, Julius Mwithalie who hang on Odinga’s chopper saw the chopper take off for about 20km until it landed at a school nearby.

Mwithalie was also charged with attempted suicide but was released after the intervention of Mr Odinga.

Attempted suicide in Kenya attracts a penalty of two years in prison.
