Met Department: Expect More Rainfall This Week

According to the Meteorological Department, the rain that has been falling in most parts of Kenya will continue until the end of the week.

The weatherman said in an update issued on Tuesday that spatial distribution is likely to remain poor in the country’s Coast, South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions.

“Isolated storms are likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley,” said the Met department.

At the same time, isolated storms will hit the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the coast, and North-eastern Kenya.

The weatherman’s announcement comes after months of severe drought in over 23 counties across Kenya.

Previously, the Met Department forecasted below-average to no rainfall in October, November, and December, all of which have historically been wet seasons.

“The Climate Outlook for the October-November-December (OND) 2022 Short Rains season indicates that most parts of the country are likely to experience depressed rainfall with higher probabilities over the eastern sector. There is a good chance that most of the country will experience drier-than-average conditions,” noted the Met department in September.
