A middle-aged woman was arrested by police in Awendo, Migori County, on suspicion of burning her co-wife with hot water in the Dede area.
According to Awendo sub-county Police Commander Mathias Pombo, the suspect was married as the second wife after the first wife left due to marital problems.
She is accused of assaulting her co-wife during the burial of one of their neighbors on Wednesday evening.
Mr. Pombo noted that the victim, who had been away, had only returned to express his condolences to the bereaved family when the co-wife poured hot water on her face.
According to the police chief, the suspect may have been concerned about how the husband was interacting freely with the co-wife, who had left their home several years ago.
He stated that the victim suffered facial burns and was rushed to Ranen Mission Hospital, where she is being treated.
According to the police commander, the suspect was arrested and is being held at the Awendo Police Station until his arraignment in court on Thursday.
