Miguna Responds To Raila’s Call For Interpol To Investigate Gicheru’s Death

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has dismissed Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s call for Interpol to investigate the death of lawyer Paul Gicheru.

Raila said on Wednesday that Gicheru died under mysterious circumstances while awaiting judgment at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged witness interference in Kenya’s post-election violence cases.

He stated that in order to avoid a cover-up, the case should be handled by international investigative agencies such as Interpol.

“This is particularly so because the case has international implications as Mr Gicheru was in the custody of the ICC at the time of his death,” Raila said in a statement released by his spokesman Makau Mutua.

However, Miguna stated that Interpol had no jurisdiction to investigate any case in the country.

“The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an organization of police associations around the world. It has neither the capacity nor the jurisdiction to investigate anything in Kenya,” Miguna said in a tweet on Thursday.

According to the lawyer, Gicheru’s murder can be investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICC), in whose custody he was at the time of his death.

Gicheru died at his home in Karen, Nairobi, on Monday night.

He was discovered unresponsive on the couch around 7 p.m., according to police. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
