Home Court Round-Up Court Three-Judge Bench Dismisses Sonko Case

Three-Judge Bench Dismisses Sonko Case

The juges said the Katiba Institute and other civil rights bodies were seeking to harmonize chapter six on integrity grounds.

It is a relief for former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko after the high court ruled it has no jurisdiction to determine integrity issues on candidates with integrity cases.

The three judge bench; David Majanja , Murungi Thande and Enock Mwota ruled that they lack jurisdiction to determine the integrity case on former Governor Mike Sonko and other candidates vying for various elective positions.

“Petitions by civil rights bodies and activist Okiya Omutatah are general in nature and have not raised any particular integrity issues,” ruled the bench.

Judges David Majanja , Enock Mwita and Murungi Thande ruled that the petitions filed before them to determine whether Sonko , Samuel Arama (nakuru town west mp) and Karungo Thangw’a(UDA’s kiambu senatorial hopeful) are premature in nature.

The juges said the Katiba Institute and other civil rights bodies were seeking to harmonize chapter six on integrity grounds.

“We lack jurisdiction to entertain the petition on integrity issues about Sonko and others,”ruled Justice Majanja.
