Immigrations Officer Implicated In Corruption

An officer from the immigration department attached at the Investigations docket was arraigned in Milimani Law courts facing a charge of fraudulently obtaining money from two Indian nationals on diverse dates and occasions.

Kennedy Onyango Handa is charged with obtaining Ksh 650,000 from Varsani Walji Ramji on March 1, 2021.

The accused person being an officer at the immigration department in Nairobi is said to have gained trust from the said Indian by pretending he would process and issue a genuine permanent resident certificate for the said India. A fact the accused knew to be false. 

Further, Mr. Handa is charged with obtaining sh 550,000 from another Indian National namely Jadavji Shivji Vagjiani by also pretending he would issue him with a permanent resident certificate a fact he knew to be false.

The second fraud is believed to have occurred on August 7, 2021 at Immigration Headquarters in Nairobi. 

Appearing before Magistrate Caroline Muthoni, the accused denied particulars of the case and was released on a bond of Ksh 500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
