Gold Scam: Two Congolese Nationals Arraigned In Court

Two Congolese Nationals have been charged at Milimani LawCourts with Sh 27M gold scam.

The two Mathieu Bayindu Patsamu and Marcelin wa Nyanguangi Bruce appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied two counts of fraud.

They were charged that on diverse dates between January 8, 2023 and April 5, 2023, jointly with others not before the court, conspired to obtain USD 214,500 equivalent to Sh 27,583,000 from Tophead Vision Company of Seoul, Korea.

They were also charged in another count with obtaining money by false pretences against the law.

The two were charged that on similar dates and places, they obtained from the said company 175KGs of gold from the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) through Nairobi and that the same was being held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on transit to Seol, Korea Vide Turkish Airlines Airway.

Through lawyer Ishmael Nyaribo, the two pleaded with the court to be released on favourable terms.

Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji opposed their release. Haji through prosecutor Anderson Gikunda opposed the release of Mathieu Bayindu Patsamu and Marcelin WA Nyanguangi Bruce arguing that the two foreigners are a flight risk.

They were detained till April 18, 2023, when they will know their fate on whether they will be released on bail.
