Ministry Of ICT Eager To Realise Its Role To Advance Digital Healthcare And Achievement Of UHC

In order to advance digital healthcare, the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE) is dedicated to carrying out its role as a crucial delivery agent.

Eliud Owalo, the cabinet secretary for MICDE, stated in a speech read on his behalf by Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, the principal secretary for broadcasting and telecommunications, that the ministry is dedicated to realising the healthcare pillar of the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The CS, who served as the chief guest at today’s Universal Healthcare Conference and Expo in Kericho County’s Kapkatet Stadium, said that complete digitalization of health services is a crucial enabler for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

“It will streamline health information exchange and enhance care co-ordination of patient care. An inter-connected digital health ecosystem will secure timely and accurate diagnoses and treatment and, accordingly, contribute to equitable access to quality healthcare for all citizens,” he stated.

CS Owalo observed that to achieve digital transformation in healthcare, the National Health Information Exchange network has been envisioned as a crucial component of the digital health superhighway, “it will secure an efficient exchange of health data amongst healthcare providers across the country, as well as drive seamless communication in the sector.”

Among key leaders present were Health CS Susan Nakhumicha, COG Chair of ICT Committee and Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Kericho Deputy Governor Eng. Fredrick Kipng’etich,  Public Health and Professional Standards PS Mary Muriuki and her Medical Services counterpart Harry Kimtai,  Chairperson, Board of Directors KUTRRH, Olive Mugenda, among other leaders in the health sector.
