Former first lady Michelle Obama has orchestrated a sting attack on US President Donald J. Trump, in a heartful keynote message – By Gerald Gekara.
“Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country…. Our economy is in shambles because of a virus that this president downplayed for too long.” said the former US first lady in an emotionally recorded message to the Democratic convention.
Mrs. Obama, who recorded her keynote address before Mr Biden announced his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, six days ago, accused Trump of faking his way into the White House.
“You simply cannot fake your way through this job, ” she said in remarks that closed the first night of the convention on Monday.
She continued to trash the president’s response to protests over the systematic racism.
“Stating the simple fact that a black lives matter is still met with derision from the nation’s highest office,” Mrs. Obama continued.
“Because whenever we look to this White House for some leadership, or consolation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division, and a total and utter lack of empathy.”
The former first lady said that the last four years had been difficult to explain to America’s children.
“They see our leaders labeling fellow citizens enemies of the state while emboldening torch-bearing white supremacists.
Trump’s presidency has come under sharp criticism over the last four years, with his response to the coronavirus pandemic being the final blow to his reputation.
While responding to Mitchelle Obama, Trump tweeted that he was put on the job after a ‘horrible’ ObamaBiden administration.
“Somebody, please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama. Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for that very late & unenthusiastic endorsement.” Trump tweeted.
He went on to defend his claim to the White House, touting his presidency as the best America has had so far.
“My Administration and I built the greatest economy in history, of any country, turned it off, saved millions of lives, and now am building an even greater economy than it was before. Jobs are flowing, NASDAQ is already at a record high, the rest to follow. Sit back & watch!”
