Management Clears Air On Coast Bus Fire

Written by Cyrus Kimanga | |

The Modern Coast bus with the registration number KCU 154L that caught fire on Monday evening was not involved in the accident, the bus company has confirmed.

The management said one of the rear tyres caught fire due to friction at the wheel level as the bus attempted to get out of a tight lane with potholes while avoiding two cars involved in an earlier accident.

The incident occurred near Bendera trading centre on the Chavakali – Kapsabet road.

The bus was bound for Mombasa from Mumias.

The bus was reduced to ashes as the crew was unable to put out the fire caused by a petrol spill from one of the cars.

All passengers were rescued from the ill-fated coach and proceeded with their journey after the company sent another bus.
