Mogadishu: Bombs Explode As Ruto, Leaders Discuss Al-Shabaab

The leaders of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djobouti will meet there following recent military successes by the Somali government over Islamist extremists.

Mortar shells have exploded in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, as regional officials assemble to discuss their united operation against the al-Shabab extremist group.

The four rounds landed near the presidential palace, which is closely guarded. There have been no reported casualties.

The leaders of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djobouti will meet there following recent military successes by the Somali government over Islamist extremists.

Al-Shabab continues to control huge parts of Somalia and carries out regular attacks.

However, they have lost territory since the government launched a new onslaught in August, supported by US and African forces.
