Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named among the six nominees for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, following a stellar season that saw him lead his club to Premier League glory.
The 33-year-old Egyptian forward was instrumental in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists. His prolific form also earned him the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award, where he secured nearly 90% of the vote, the highest winning margin recorded this century, making him the favourite for the PFA prize as well.
Salah is joined on the shortlist by Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Declan Rice enjoyed a career-best season, scoring nine goals and registering 10 assists in 52 appearances, playing a key role in Arsenal’s midfield. Alexander Isak netted 23 goals for Newcastle, helping them secure a Champions League spot and ending a 56-year trophy drought with a League Cup triumph.
Bruno Fernandes, despite Manchester United’s disappointing campaign, their worst in the top flight since 1973–74, managed to stand out with eight goals and 10 assists in the league.
Cole Palmer, winner of the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023–24 season, was a surprise inclusion given Chelsea’s struggles, but his individual flashes of brilliance earned him a spot among the elite.
The 2024 PFA Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place in Manchester on August 19, where the winner will be announced in what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
