The main suspect in the 2017 arson attack at Moi Girls School, which murdered nine students, has been found guilty of manslaughter.
The defendant had previously been charged with murder, but trial judge Stella Mutuku determined that the prosecution’s evidence was insufficient to support the accusation.
Justice Mutuku also stated that she will appear in court for a hearing on mitigation and punishment on January 4, 2022.

The crime was perpetrated in November 2017 when the suspect was a 14-year-old student at the school.
Prior to the event, the suspect was claimed to have tried suicide more than twice before deciding to set fire to a school dormitory.
Detectives discovered that the student had tried unsuccessfully to kill herself by swallowing detergent in one incident.
