Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya was treated to a mass walk out shortly after being invited to read President Uhuru Kenyatta’s message to the family of MP Patrick Wainaina. – By Gerald Gekara.
Trouble started when the Deputy President William Ruto made statements concerning Mount Kenya leadership holding president Uhuru hostage to their people alone.
“If you say the president is the leader of Mt Kenya, who will be the president of the rest of the country. We voted for him and we love him,” Ruto said.
When Ruto invited CS Munya to address the mourners, the mourners who had gathered, staged a walk out.
CS Munya who was disturbed by the heckling as well as the walk out, put aside the speech to supposedly correct the Deputy President, as well as the supporters walking out.
“We have never claimed the President serves Mt Kenya Region alone. The President is the leader of the whole country. Just the way he carries development projects across the country, he also develops Mt Kenya region” Munya stated.
Munya later rebuked the mourners as well as the deputy president, against disrespecting a funeral.
“With a lot of respect to everybody here including the DP, this is a very solemn occasion where we are giving the last respects to one of our friends. I was sent by the President who has a right to choose who he assigns whatever functions he wishes,” stated Munya.
