A defendant in the Ksh180 million Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) scam has been sentenced to 27 years in prison by a Kenyan court.
Mukuria Ngamau, the Managing Director of Quorandum Company Limited, was convicted of stealing Ksh180 million from the Youth Fund.
He was given the option of paying Ksh720 million or doing 27 years in prison if he did not pay.
Ngamau and his business were found guilty on five charges of conspiracy to conduct an economic crime, unauthorized acquisition of public property, and falsifying papers by Milimani Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

Ngamau was found guilty of conspiring to conduct an economic crime, namely disposing of public property, by lawfully paying his business Ksh180,364,789 from the Youth Enterprises Development Fund for services that were never delivered.
The businessman’s appeal for a non-custodial punishment was denied by Ogoti, who stated that the penalty is prescribed by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
Ngamau was accused with his wife, Doreen Waithera, who was acquitted of the charges after agreeing to a plea deal with the prosecution.
