David Mutai, alias Hillary Langat Matindwet, the leader of the Mulot SIM swap ring, was arrested in Kericho Town on Friday, December 30.
He was apprehended at a nearby KCB bank, where police believe he was planning another theft.
Members of the public who observed him contacted the officers on the scene, who detained him. He was brought to the local DCI headquarters before being transported to Nairobi and prosecuted.
DCI Rift Valley Francis Wanjau confirmed the detention and stated he was being interrogated.
