Multi-Agency Team Dispatched To Probe Pangani Building Accident

A multi-agency team has been sent to inspect and assess the Bajuun Tower, a residential building under construction in Pangani where four people were killed when the scaffold collapsed on Saturday.

Those found to be responsible for the incident that injured eight others will face consequences, according to a statement issued by the State Department of Public Works and signed by PS Joel Arumonyang.

The incident occurred while workers on the 17-floor project were plastering the external walls of the 15th, 16th, and 17th floors, according to PS Arumonyang.

“The workers were operating from a timber platform supported by a scaffold made of old wooden planks… Due to weather elements, the structure had become weak and unsound, and could no longer support the weight of the workers, equipment and materials.”

According to preliminary reports, the scaffolding from the 10th floor collapsed onto an adjacent property, taking the workers with it.

PS Arumonyang stated that the construction workers lacked personal protective equipment, particularly helmets and safety harnesses, during the incident.

Residents in the area have expressed concern about the state of construction in Pangani and Eastleigh, where they claim developers are not following safety standards.

Residents claim that agencies in charge of issuing permits and enforcing safety standards during construction have turned a blind eye to the construction mess in the area.
