A suspect linked to the murder of a 25-year-old man at DD Plaza in Eastleigh on November 9, 2024, will remain in custody for 14 days as investigations continue.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions secured the detention order for Paul Odhiambo Owuodha, also known as Fazul Mohamed, at Shaurimoyo Police Station.
The victim, Abdirahim Abdulahi Ibrahim, was fatally shot during the incident, and his mobile phone was stolen.
Preliminary investigations led to the recovery of a spent cartridge at the crime scene, which became crucial in linking the suspect to the murder.
Odhiambo was arrested on November 23 within the Kiambiu slums after police traced him through investigative leads.
“The applicant (DCI) is seeking custodial orders for the respondent (Odhiambo) to be remanded for 14 days at Shaurimoyo Police Station,” Cpl. Cheruiyot told the court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has disclosed plans to analyze the suspect’s call data records, recover the murder weapon—a pistol—and conduct a mental assessment of the suspect.
Odhiambo allegedly confessed to being part of the gang that murdered DCI officer David Mayaka in Ruai in August last year.
He claimed the group intended only to rob the officer, but his accomplices fatally shot him. Mayaka, a scenes of crime officer based at the Makadara DCI offices, was ambushed while in his car with his wife.
Odhiambo will remain in custody until his court appearance on December 16, 2024.
