Jobnstone Muthama has described DP William Ruto as a pauper who used to receive handouts from him. Muthama, a controversial Ruto supporter said he bankrolled former President Moi’s election in 1992 and 1997.
He was responding to allegations that he received Sh. 1 billion from Ruto to dump Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. He claimed he was richer than Ruto, citing the various homes he owns in Machakos, Taita Taveta, Tala in Machakos.
Muthama is however suspected to have overstated his wealth. He routinely parades himself as the wealthiest Kamba politician. Former Kilome MP John Harun Mwau is said to be the richest Kamba politician. But he appears to have quit elective politics. He did not contest any seat in 2017.
