Raila Odinga’s Orange Party has chosen Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir to represent it in the August gubernatorial election in Mombasa.
After his main challenger, Mr Suleiman Shahbal, agreed to step down in a deal brokered by Mr Odinga, ODM settled on the MP.
Senator Mohamed Faki, who will now defend his seat, is also part of the deal.
Mr Odinga revealed the details of the deal during a press conference at the party’s Nairobi headquarters late Friday.
Mr. Shahbal will join Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign team, where he will be in charge of coordinating the party’s efforts across the country.
