NACADA Praises Brave 2NK Sacco Driver

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has lauded a matatu driver who drove smoking students into a police station.

“The Authority wishes to commend Mr. John Muthoni Maina for his bold intervention in the unfortunate and peculiar situation involving the high school students. His action is an exemplification of the collaborative effort in the fight against alcohol and substance abuse in learning institutions.”

Through its CEO, Victor Okioma, the agency has urged Kenyans to shun drug abuse especially among teenagers.

“NACADA wishes to encourage other public transport sector players to support the fight against substance abuse through concerted effort with relevant agencies. In view of the foregoing, the Authority will, in partnership with other stakeholders, engage in robust campaigns against alcohol and substance abuse during the festive season.”

The students who were on their midterm break, escaped the matatu beforepolice officers could arrest them.

NACADA announced that it will engage with the school, and other institutions in promoting the new National Guidelines for Alcohol and Substance Use Prevention and Management in Basic Education Institutions.

The driver’s actions have labelled him a hero among parents while in some quarters such as the sacco themselves, have denounced his deed.
