NACADA Seizes Over 5,000 Litres of Illicit Alcohol in Narok During Multi-Agency Crackdown

By Kelly Were

In a major multi-agency operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), more than 5,000 litres of illicit alcohol were seized and narcotics confiscated in Narok County.

The two-day crackdown, conducted on May 22 and 23, 2025, targeted high-risk areas in Topoti/Emorogi and Naikara markets within Narok North and Narok West sub-counties.

The enforcement initiative was spearheaded by NACADA’s Head of Enforcement, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nicholas Kosgey, in collaboration with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and the National Police Service (NPS).

In Topoti/Emorogi, officers dismantled several illegal brewing sites, destroying over 5,000 litres of Kangara—a highly potent and illegal alcoholic brew.

They also recovered 5 kilograms of bhang. No suspects were apprehended, as individuals fled the sites ahead of the raids.

At Naikara Market, the team conducted thorough compliance checks on alcohol vendors, seizing and destroying 60 litres of Busaa. Intelligence gathered during the operation suggests that the market may be a conduit for counterfeit and uncustomed goods, possibly smuggled in from neighboring Tanzania.

While the operation did not yield arrests, it has been hailed as a significant deterrent. Residents praised the authorities’ efforts, expressing strong support and willingness to assist in future enforcement actions.

“The public has been supportive and is willing to assist in future operations,” said SSP Kosgey. “This is just the beginning—more crackdowns will follow.”

NACADA and its partner agencies have pledged to escalate enforcement in the region, warning that all individuals involved in the illicit alcohol and drug trade will face legal consequences as part of the ongoing campaign to combat substance abuse.
