A 35-year-old man was shot and killed early this morning while confronting thugs who had attacked his girlfriend at Winners Apartments in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Geoffrey Sigei and his girlfriend Winfred Kairuthi arrived at the apartment around 4:30 a.m. in two separate vehicles when they were confronted by thugs. According to the apartment’s guard, Samuel Wafula, Winfred entered the compound first, followed by the deceased; three men forced their way inside after the vehicles had passed the main gate.
According to the guard, the men immediately went to Winfred’s vehicle and began ransacking it. This prompted her boyfriend to come to her rescue.
The armed thugs opened fire and shot him in the abdomen as they fled the scene, drawing the attention of nearby police officers.
Neighbours responded to the commotion and rushed Sigei to a referral hospital in Ruiru, where he died while receiving treatment for his injuries.
Detectives have since determined that the deceased was followed all the way from Ashaki grill in Thome Estate by the assailants’ gate away car, a silver Toyota Prado TX.
Thika-based crime scene investigators went to the scene and recovered two spent 9mm cartridges.
