Detectives in Makadara are investigating an incident in which a 24-year-old man allegedly killed his grandmother by cutting her throat with a kitchen knife last night.
Mr Timon Odingo, the chief of Makadara police, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred in Mukuru-Mariguini slum, South ‘B’, Starehe sub-county.
Mr Odingo went to the Mariguini police station after the suspect committed the act against his grandmother, Mrs Esther Toni Ngati, 93.
The suspect was identified as Moses Mwanzia Mathuku by the police.
“The suspect called and reported himself to the Mariguini police station. He explained that he murdered his grandmother by butchering her with a kitchen knife and cutting her throat “Mr Odingo added.
Mr Odingo explained that police officers, along with colleagues from the DCIO office led by the area head, Felix Kithuku, arrived at the scene and confirmed the grandmother’s death.
Mr Kithuku told Nation that the court had granted them permission to extend the interrogation of the suspect for several days.
“The suspect is being held in police custody at the Industrial Area police station, but we will charge him once the investigation is completed,” Mr Kithuku added.
The deceased’s body was discovered soaked in blood on the floor of the house.
While the deceased’s body was taken to the City Mortuary, the police took a bloody knife next to the body as evidence.
Despite being a boxer and having a history of mental problems as a result of narcotics use, police say they have no idea what motivated the suspect to commit murder.
