Nairobi Expressway Daily Traffic Clocks 70,000 Cars

The Nairobi Expressway has experienced a significant increase in daily traffic, with nearly 40% of vehicles opting to avoid the congested Mombasa Road and Waiyaki highways.

This has led to a double decker road that has caused motorists to get stuck at exit points.

Up to 70,000 vehicles are now using the 27km elevated road, which cuts across Mlolongo, through Mombasa Road, the upper side of Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) atop Uhuru Highway, upto Westlands, and ends at James Gichuru Road.

However, as more vehicles use the road, the gridlock at exit points is increasing during rush hours.

The most affected being the Museum Hill Exit during morning hours, the Eastern Bypass exit during evening hours, and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) exit, where most vehicles leave the Expressway.

Some motorists spend over 30 minutes navigating into the CBD after using 20 minutes to cruise the entire length of the road.
