The Nairobi Expressway will not touch the Uhuru Highway or any other public land – By Gerald Gekara
Kenya National Highways Authority(KeNHA) Director-General Peter Mundinia said the authority will utilize existing land reserve for the construction of the prestigious highway.
“We are not touching the Uhuru Park or any other land along the whole stretch”, Mundinia said.
While speaking to Uzalendo News, the Director General said the Railway Sports Club and Nairobi Lunar park bus terminus are being carried out by the County Government of Nairobi and the Metropolitan Services.
Mundinia said the Urban Transport Mobility Centre facility is part of the Bus Rapid Transport, Commuter Rail, Light Rail, and Public Service Vehicles.
“The Express Way project has nothing to do with the Railway land near Uhuru Park.
He also weighed in on the expressway, assuring that the project is currently progressing as per the timelines.
The Nairobi Express road project will be constructed in the middle of the dual carriageway to and from Mlolongo.
Effectively, this means no new land parcels are required to effect the project, outside the Government, gazetted road reserve.
Conversely, there will be a minimum interruption during the exercise, as the existing reserve, at certain points are more than 30 meters.
The project is a Private Public Partnership between the China Road and Bridge Corporation(CRBC) and the Government of Kenya.
The project will ease traffic jams on Mombasa Road and Uhuru Highway…and enhance access to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Currently, commuters consume up to 3 hours on the 27-kilometer stretch.
It has been made worse by the increase of traffic on Langata Road, Thika Superhighway, Outer Ring Road, Jogoo Road, and Lusaka Road.
