A Nakuru man, Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono, has been found guilty of murdering his neighbor, Moody Awori, in a shocking incident linked to a suspected love triangle. The ruling was delivered by Justice Samuel Mohochi, concluding an almost two-year-long legal battle.
“The manner in which the body of the deceased was found is indicative of the depth of violence he suffered at the hands of the accused,” Justice Mohochi noted. He convicted Rono of murder under Sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code.
The incident occurred on August 29, 2023. Rono, working as a night guard in Kiamunyeki, reportedly excused himself from work to try and reach his wife by phone. On arriving home around 9 pm, he attempted to enter his bedroom but received no response. When his wife emerged looking anxious, Rono searched the room and discovered Awori, half-dressed, hiding under the bed.
According to evidence presented in court, Rono attacked Awori with a machete, stabbing him multiple times on the neck and limbs. Following the attack, Rono went to Lanet Police Station to report the incident and guided officers to the crime scene, leading to his arrest.
Government pathologist Titus Ngulungu testified that Awori died from severe head injuries caused by both blunt and sharp force trauma. Rono now awaits sentencing.
