Naomi Campbell named Kenya’s international Tourism ambassador

The Ministry of Tourism has announced the appointment of supermodel Naomi Campbell as the International Tourism Ambassador from Kenya. – By Gerald Gekara.

The award-winning model and designer will carry the Kenyan flag and the tag Magical Kenya in 2021.

While making the announcement, Tourism CS Najib Balala said;

“We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the magical Kenya brand,” stated Balala.

Naomi Campbell acknowledged the appointment, further expressing her gratitude on the state of Vipingo Springs which was upgraded to world-class golf course standards.

“I am also impressed with the world-class standard facilities at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Baobab course located in Vipingo Ridge, the only golf course accredited by the PGA in the whole of Africa. I invite golf professionals globally to visit the course to enjoy the experience,” she stated.

Campbell had flown into the country and went to the tourist resort town of Malindi for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Campbell will take over from Eliud Kipchoge who held the position in 2020.

News of Campbell’s recruitment comes in the wake of pop star Madonna revealing that she was also in the country for a visit.

Kenya’s tourism sector was badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic recording lower numbers of visitors and hotel occupancy but the government has since embarked on an aggressive campaign to revive its fortunes.
