NASA Out: Parties Registrar Confirms

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has been declared defunct.

After Wiper, ANC, Ford Kenya, and Chama Cha Mashinani wrote to her office announcing their withdrawal from the coalition, Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu announced the breakup of NASA Coalition.

In a letter to ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, FORD-Moses Kenya’s Wetangula, and Chama Cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto, Nderitu highlighted that the parties’ decisions were carried out according to the rules.

“This Office shall, in line with Regulation 22 (2) of the Political Parties (Registration) Regulations, 2019, publish a notice of the dissolution in two newspapers,”

Wiper, ANC, and Ford-Kenya party leaders announced their decision to depart the NASA coalition at a joint news conference on August 3, 2021, adding that they would engage other parties as the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
The distribution of the coalition’s cash from the Political Parties Fund among the former affiliates was one of the problems that contributed to the collapse.

However, ODM announced last Monday that it has paid out Sh117.2 million to its former National Super Alliance partners.

The ODM, on the other hand, withheld a Sh36 million share for Ford Kenya, which is mired in a power struggle.

Wiper was awarded Sh70.4 million, NC was awarded Sh43.8 million, and Isaac Ruto’s CCM was awarded Sh3 million.
