NCIC Condemns Bare Sahara Ahmed’s Remarks, Terms Them Threat to National Unity

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has condemned remarks allegedly made by Bare Sahara Ahmed, describing them as hate speech that threatens national unity.

In a statement issued Monday, the commission said that while the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, the right is not absolute and does not extend to hate speech, incitement to violence, or propaganda for war.

NCIC emphasised that every Kenyan has the right to live, work, and conduct lawful activities in any part of the country without fear of discrimination or intimidation, noting that such rights must be upheld at all times.

The commission confirmed that it had taken action in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, leading to the arrest of the Garissa-based aspiring legislator.

“This step underscores our commitment to enforcing the law fairly and without fear or favour. The matter is now before the relevant authorities, and due process will be followed in accordance with the law,” NCIC said.

The agency urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation or engaging in actions that could escalate tensions.

It also called on leaders and citizens to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue, stressing the need to safeguard national unity.
