Netizens react to exiled Miguna Miguna’s bid for Nairobi governor

Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna declared his interest in the Nairobi Governor’s seat after an awful impeachment of Mike Sonko.

In the twitter post that has attracted widespread backing as well as criticism, Miguna asked for volunteers to fund his candidature.

“Having received competent legal advice from @waikwawanyoike on Dec. 19, 2020, I, Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan citizen by birth and registered voter in Nairobi, hereby declare my candidature for the position of Governor of Nairobi in the upcoming by-election. Volunteers are welcomed,” Miguna wrote.

In response to his bid, Kenyans wrote back; equally optimistic and disappointed.

“You have my undisputed support anytime you vie for a position in this country. I will be happy voting a genuine leadership with integrity and vision. Thank you for yet another chance to confirm my support. Can’t wait to vote” – Bruno Oganga

“You have what it takes to fix the cartels in Nairobi and bring back the glory of Nairobi, I am still a registered voter in Nairobi and wouldn’t think twice to travel there to vote for you as the next governor of Nairobi.” – Odanga Milimu

“I voted for you in 2017, I will do it again. For the clear vision & concrete roadmap to achieve your election pledges, I endorse your candidacy. For your integrity & ability to wrestle the cartels, I will vote for you. The only leader that can drain the swamp alongside NMS.” – Frankline OJ the III

“Miguna ni Sonko amesoma, there is no difference between them. Both have a careless mouth, both suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) whose major symptom is IMPULSIVITY, which refers to acting without thinking first. Nairobi needs a technocrat.” – Leila Noor

“If Miguna Miguna is the best he would have clinched a political post in Canada as we speak. Most Somali who migrated to the US from Kenya got political posts as high as congress.” – ben

2017 Race

However, the fiery advocate for good governance is not new to the race. In 2017 general election, Miguna Miguna attempted to vie as an independent candidate and emerged fourth with 10,308 votes behind Sonko, Evans Kidero, and Peter Kenneth.

Miguna was deported to Canada in 2018, and efforts to return to the country have been futile.

In a separate tweet, Miguna vowed to reassemble his 2017 campaign team to do all the necessary arrangements for his bid including picking nomination forms, filling them up and submitting them to the electoral commission.

Sonko was declared impeached on Thursday after 27 out of 45 Senators voted to uphold the motion tabled before the Senate.
