A senior Editor at TUKO.co.ke was sentenced to 6 months in prison or an Sh50,000 fine this morning for a misleading article published in relation to the ongoing NYS graft case.
Senior Principal Magistrate Eunice Nyutu sentenced him in both his professional and personal capacities.
Nyutu stated in her ruling that the punishment will deter other journalists, editors, and media outlets who may publish misleading articles.
She stated that the story published by TUKO had harmed the witness’s reputation.
The prosecution filed a complaint alleging that the articles tainted their witness’s name.
The editor through his defence lawyer apologized to the Court saying that the media House has so far deleted the article from its website.
However, the court ruled that the article was defamatory and punishable by Law.
