Ngimari fire tragedy prime suspect Boaz Wanjala Iyati has been detained at Itabua police station in Embu county for 14 extra days.

This is after the prosecution filed an application to have the suspect remain in custody pending charging to allow detectives to complete investigations.

In an affidavit sworn at Runyenjes law court by the investigating officer Samuel Onyamasi ,there was need for detention of the suspect as the investigations were not yet complete.

According to the affidavit the detective had sought directions from the office of the director of public prosecutions who had since given him a chance to fill in gaps in the suspect’s file.

Runyenjes senior principal magistrate Josphat Gichimu directed that the suspect who did not object the detectives request, be presented to court on January 27 to confirm progress of the investigations.

Wanjala had previously been arraigned on January 9th when the magistrate granted the detectives 7 more days to have the suspect remain in custody before being arraigned today.

The suspect is alleged to have set a blaze and burnt to death a family of 7 on the night of october 2, 2022 in ngimari village, Runyenjes Embu county in what is said to have been a missed target.

He was later arrested by detectives at his home village in Navakholo, Kakamega county on Friday 6th after months of being on the run.
